Waun Lwyd Cottages

During the 1930s, a family residing in one of the two isolated cottages high on the mountainside shared their home with an uninvited guest that eventually drove them away.

The presence was described as a "heavy, dark mass", and caused a general feeling of depression. It allegedly tagged bedclothes during the night.

The Berlei Factory

In the 1980s, a report in the South Wales Argus detailed spooky occurrences in the Berlei underwear factory.

The phenomena was put down to the ghost of "Charlie", who like nothing more than to switch off the lights when someone went to the toilet!

The Millstream and Churchyard

The apparition of a young woman carrying her baby has been seen in the area of the millstream and churchyard of St. John’s Church. She has been described as a ‘white misty form’ walking steadily along the path by the stream.

According to accounts, the form disappears where the stream takes a bend near to a bridge. The ghost has also been spotted on the other side of the bridge, waling through the closed church gates.

Ty'n y Fid

Ty’n y Fid was a house along the Ebwy Fawr, and the author Richard Holland recounts the stories associated with it (see Haunted Wales: A Survey of Welsh Ghostlore). It is drawn from the work of Edmund Jones, A Relation of the Apparitions of Spirits published in 1780. The accounts span over three generations, and we recommend that you read either Jones or Holland to get a detailed description of the events.

The house was haunted by a ghost with a purpose - that of hidden treasure (which turns out to be wall, but treasure can be more than mandatory to an individual). Other apparitions included a woman and a Dog of Darkness.
